(I may be jaded about farmers, but, it's almost time to bring in Feed Corn here in Texas, and the straight pipe plattons were moving equipment around on the highways.)

2024-05-23 20:29:28 +0000 UTCI'm from the Netherlands, but pretty sure this is a global thing: Ground and Neutral need to be bonded, but only at one point ever. If It is never bonded, you have 0 ground fault protection and can electrocute people even if you have GFCI's. If you have more than one bond, the current that should go through the neutral can go trough ground, and not just ground wires but any path to ground, including water lines, the actual soil, people touching 2 metal pieces at once, etc. This can be very dangerous. Here in the Netherlands it is usually bonded before it enters your house, or in big installation as soon as it enters, but there are variations.

2024-05-23 18:11:40 +0000 UTCIf you want a lot of the useful info in the NEC in a much smaller cheaper handier and easier to understand format check out the UGLY's handbook, its sort of like the difference between the machinist black book and machinery handbook.. and upsizing your conduit is never a bad life choice.

Once all of them are through, you can even them up or pull in enough to cut them off even. You figured out that unspooling wire not on spools doesn't work. Paint (Kilz is great! And it's a white base coat that'll seal the wood) What about your staircase supports?

2024-05-23 16:36:28 +0000 UTCWes, congratulations! You finsihed the wiring and are still married. While I am not a licensed electrican, I am a EE and have wired several houses. You might want to check for your next project, but I think it is permissable to use metallic conduit as the ground conductor, as long as it is an uninterrupted run. No such thing as too much light. If it's too bright, just take out the lamps, but leave the fixture for the future when you need it. I would just paint the exterior walls -- it's a shop, not a rec room. I understand why you need a door for downstairs; it's an office and you need noise / dirt control; but why put a door on upstairs? I think it would just get in the way. As a professional project manager, I am well acquainted with the 'never ending project'. To fix it, make a list of your to-dos and stick to it. Everything else you find out you "need" can make up the next project with it's own timeline and budget. You and you wife have done a fantastic job and serve as a model for everyone . Thanks!

2024-05-23 16:30:43 +0000 UTCNice work Wes. I like the touch of clocking the screws in the wall plates. I worked as an industrial electrician about 40 years ago, and ran miles of conduit. We almost never used fish tape for runs over 50', but would suck a string through with a shop vac and use a rope to pull the wire. It made for much easier pulls. Nice execution of the work, and some great explanations of the why's.
