My Electronics Bench Gets a Major Upgrade

This thing came out really nice!

My Electronics Bench Gets a Major Upgrade

Comments

Love the videos, forgive me I may have asked before. What program are you using for 3D modeling?

M Drouard

Most excellent.

Alan Wood

Great vid. Couldn't agree more. Even working on a 50 year old hooptie or piece if equipment there's a circuit board in there somewhere that NAPA doesn't stock. A decent bench is a godsend.

Lee Hambrick

nice set up

gregory mais

The wife has you pegged.

Bill Scott

Wes, been married going on 45 years and one thing I have learned is to listen to the wife. She's uncannily right 100% of the time (just ask her). Having said that, I'm selfishly glad you did not listen to her, THIS time. Nice bench. Well done!

Thomas Scheumann

Mrs. Wes: I'm not spending my weekend working on this. Next scene: Mrs. Wes is holding the table top to cut it in half. LOL Nice project. It came out great.

Curtis Roberts

You could say that, but since I already unsubscribed in a fit of anger, I wouldn't see it. If I had seen it though, I would have argued that I said I "prefer to believe", which could be couched as an opinion, and as such, could not be challenged, however pedantic (and right) you may be. This reply leaves you the natural response about the incredible runon sentence I just used. Please feel free to use it, since I'm not here to read it.

South Street Barbecue

Still in the shop. I'm currently working on a remote control.

I would be pedantic and say that forceps are locking and therefore those are, in fact, tweezers. That my guess anyway.

Shun Lagueux

What happened to the logging robot??? 🤷🤷🤷

Travis Sabatini

Great job, Wes. You built an excellent workbench for electronics and got a desk! Love Mrs. Wes and the flip-flops!

Dr. Internet

That does look like a sweet setup Wes, now I have electronics bench envy!

David Yates

Wonderful - and Noga cameo showing that chamfers and deburring truly are what separate hominids from beasts

James Riordan

Mrs Wes is a woman after my own heart, too funny! Weekend starts on Thursday in anticipation.

John Heveran

That might be too nice for me. Prussa just released a sweet new Delta style professional printer. Too bad it costs $10k!

Wes - not saying lightning will strike twice on this, but the channel I work for reached out to JBC for one of their soldering iron stations, and they actually sent them. I feel very spoiled every time I have to fix my broken junk. Maybe try it, worst thing they can say is no. Same with Prusa, see if they'll send you an XL, that thing is slick.

Jamie Pilkey

It's nice to see the law of averages finally catch up so something goes right for you! Unfortunately, you used the word "tweezers" on something I prefer to believe are forceps, so naturally I have to unsubscribe...

South Street Barbecue

Cool bench (despite Skeptical Wife being Skeptical :-) ) PLA will tap, but, I've never enjoyed the "feeling" of what it's doing to the taps when cutting. Mind, using PC or Nylon12 or PEEK (if price is no object) can improve that. You probably ought to look into a bench magnifier to clamp on the edge, too.

CapnMac82

Hot dang that takes me back 40 years when I worked with electronics guys. Break out the bread board..

Eric Corse

great job. Well done sir.

dozerman53111

I was a bench tech for 15 yrs. The best soldering station I had was a Pace MBT 250. Pricey but it could do everything I wanted.

John Lottes

Swearing, what swearing? Evidently it never makes it on camera. Any of my projects that have significant complexity, have lots of swearing. This job looked to be a smooth project.

Tom Hollowell

Just as good as your auto videos! Enjoyed every minute, wife conversation was familiar to me, just great fun!

StarWatcher

Yeah I have a Hakko desoldering tool. I don't use it a whole lot. Pretty much everything except big caps and connectors has gone surface mount, which is a whole new learning curve for me.

Mrs. Wes is a wise woman, but you got it to work with, I'm sure, just a bit of cursing. Love her OHAS approved safety flip-flops. Great video. Looking forward to your next, regardless of what it maybe.

Curtis Coon

Nice job on the bench, I was a marine electronics tech for the USCG for 23 years, and I know just what kind of money the gov spends on the likes of Vidmar and Lista lol. If you have a few bucks left in the soldering equipment budget, I would add a vacuum de-soldering pump, the spring piston ones work ok, but the vacuum irons are easier to use. The other fantastic thing is a resistweez, its a pair of tweezers that are powered by your solder station usually with foot pedal control, they are amazing for soldering multipin connectors and other stuff that's tightly populated and super fidly, you hold the thing with the iron, heat it, add solder and then remove the heat all while still holding it. game changer for soldering amphenol connectors. And I really like my wiha precision screwdriver set, its got torx, allen flat and philips, and was not bad money at all.

Greg

Very nice bench! As for the ESD protection, nice to have but a bit overkill outside of data recovery or some very fancy sensitive AND expensive electronics manufacturing and repair.

BitterCynic

Yes it is a nice upgrade!

Brian Scott

Watching you cut a perfectly good horizontal surface in half made me weep. Do you know how much crap I could pile on TWO benches???

Bill Rutherford

I love the 3D printed brackets/mounts you made for the desk, very slick, nicely done!

Matt Londergan

Video idea: A tour of all your CNC machines. I see a CO2 laser, your CNC Plasma. At least one 3D printer. What else ya got?

Bubba Hyde

first major item in the new office! well...after the pencil sharpener. but that's technically not 'in' the office. how cool. nice work, Wes!

Bill

Camo pajamas! Takes me back 15 years when my son was 8. Those 3D printers are the Dremel tool for Millennials. Great job.
