Another Broken 18 Year Old Diesel Truck

I'm not dead.

Another Broken 18 Year Old Diesel Truck

Comments

He ended up selling the truck as is to a guy with several Macks.

Watch Wes Work

Hey Wes, did you ever come to a conclusion with the R Model and the bad head gasket?

Noah

So much time!

Watch Wes Work

Looking forward to it!

Watch Wes Work

Terrific video! I love your diagrams. The sarcasm had me laughing. You are so good at making these videos, I can see how it must take a lot of your time.

Brad Dokken

I sent you a postcard from Japan

Ry Jones

Probably smart.

Watch Wes Work

I want them to always be getting better. Sometimes I succeed. Sometimes not so much.

Watch Wes Work

With the jakes on full no doubt!

Watch Wes Work

Can’t tell you about the value cover bolts, because I sold my 2003 F250 in 2004 with only 10k miles on it.

Bill Scott

That was an excellent video Wes, full of humour and determination. So glad you're prepared to put the effort into producing these, they provide great entertainment!

David Yates

It took longer to piece that together than to do whole rest of the video.

Watch Wes Work

Thanks for the support!

Watch Wes Work

Wood screws!

Watch Wes Work

That's for the better my man!

Watch Wes Work

I know Ford kept changing the coolant formula.

Watch Wes Work

Good plan!

Had a "Wes Moment" yesterday on the way to the grocery store--was passe by a straight-pipe Pete. Not an Ag truck, though--a legit day cab pulling a 20 yard gravel dump trailer.

CapnMac82

That montage was a brilliant bit of video production.

CapnMac82

This is the first patreon/subscriber thing/only fans I’ve ever signed up for. Been watching for a while now and greatly appreciate the quality content, and want to support a fellow Illinois Boi. Thanks for the great entertainment!

Dale Tractor

Thanks for the video Wes! I don’t have anything to add about 6.0s or stripped valve cover bolts. I just love your videos, whatever you’re working on. You could build a bird house and I’d be fascinated!

Daniel Peterson

I've owned a 6.0 since 2010. Had the valve covers off NO less than 6 times. What happened to me was taking off the nut that holds the ficm bracket. The stud underneath the nut comes lose first. Then I'm stuck in limbo trying to hold the stud and untighten the nut. When finally it all comes out I have a new spring and a stripped out hole. Made me want to puke. YES! The valve cover bolts strip very VERY easy! That top creeper looks amazing. Having done it standing on a 5 gallon bucket. I bet its worth every penny!

Alex Ploen

defiantly has that diesel whistle! also 6 liter trucks are an American thing we don't have them here in Australia.

Steven Cox

I'm so happy when I see there's a new Wes video to watch!

Graeme Zimmer

Not a mechanic just a former owner of a F250 with a 6.0 liter. I installed a coolant filter when I purchased the unit second hand. What I remember reading was a hypothesis that the coolant was breaking down. When this happened debris from the breakdown would plug the holes in the oil cooler. Whether there is any validity in this information I have no idea. Adding a coolant filter was a comparatively low cost option for me. Truck served me well. Pulled my fifth wheel camper all around the western US. BTW very enjoyable video. You do such a good job of editing. Thanks

George Glass

Uhoh the 6L boys found out you can whisper life into Ford's. Think I'll just keep driving my 6.9 till they stop making Diesel fuel.

Kowyn Hibbert (Warrior of the Rusty Wrench)

I am.

Watch Wes Work

That's the magic if editing!

Watch Wes Work

Any serious work on these requires removing the cab, which really isn't too difficult.

Watch Wes Work

That just might work. I know the bolts you're talking about.

Watch Wes Work

In your outro you look tired sir.

Brandon Bradley

There might have been some blue language if I had to install that heli coil. Great tips.

Eric Corse

I would have been tempted to cut a hole in the floor for access. Both sides!

Bill Rutherford

One thing you could maybe try is 1/4” trilobular bolt these bolts tap their own threads in aluminum and are used commonly in small engine applications, and being 1/4” would put it a little over the 6mm thread size, then put a small steel sleeve over it that has an od similar to the Id of the grommet and the same length as the original shoulder on the original bolt, it may save you some headache

Bill

don't apologize for uploading "late" -- do what you need to do!

FliesLikeABrick

Loved the montage

FliesLikeABrick

More grey every day!

Watch Wes Work

3 of those diesel pigs in as many weeks? No wonder you've almost caught up with Eric O. on the Graybeard-o-Meter ;) The montage and "Soviet moped" comment were gold btw

Chris Freemesser

I really have not had to mess with the 6.7s yet. the 6.4 was insane. Jack up the cab to remove the turbo.

Watch Wes Work

Probably best!

Watch Wes Work

I used to at least give Ford a little bit of credit because they didn't build the engine and they had to cram it into that engine compartment, but with the 6.7 they have zero excuse and it's worse......

Travis Sabatini

Wes so good to see you are ok. Great video . Really like the , don’t drop the tiny wrench! Thanks again for yet another awesome video.

Sam Colt

Down here in Florida where natural selection doesn't take them out as easily (no road salt to rust them out) I still see quite a few 6.0's on the road, thankfully I don't have to work on them anymore.... Instead I get the pleasure of working on the 6.7L powerstroke 😡😡😡

Travis Sabatini

Wes great vid! the diesel truck videos are my favorite to watch. I'll stick with my 5.9 cummins all day!

Joe Harris

Thats good to hear, we were beginning to wonder lol.
