Having been in IT for 12 years now, I can tell you that the IT industry is way, WAY less toxic (figuratively and literally). If I had a CNC mill in my garage, didn't have deadlines or have to deal with people, I could spend 8 hours a day at it be a very happy man indeed. Also, if you haven't checked out Cutting Edge Engineering already, you should. He has a heavy equipment repair shop in Australia and is in my opinion one of the best machinist/fabricators on YouTube.

2023-10-10 03:48:45 +0000 UTCWes, you made a great choice with the Prusa printer. Its a great company and they make top tier consumer level FDM printers. As far as the threaded inserts. I've had great luck with them. I think you made the hole a little too big from what I could tell. Most have a smaller diameter shoulder. Slap your calipers on that and add about 5%. You should just be able to shove that shoulder into the hole with some force and nothing more.

2023-10-09 16:30:07 +0000 UTCIt can be. There's much less evidence of the "layers" FDM printers can have at very fine resolution. Also ,as it's more "sintering" than "thermowelding" there's slightly better tolerance for round being round, and dimensions of things being more like the model. So, a person can get trheads moulded in (minding printer resolution, of course).

Nice work and nice weld. You make me jealous with all your toys! CNC plasma is an awesome thing to have. I laughed way to hard at your saw horse incident. At least you were not standing there and have it all land on your feet!

I used to buy slot car wings and that had to be lower volume than some the stuff you have designs for. Check out the Shapeways marketplace. I bet there are other companies doing print on demand stuff.

I have purchased printed parts designed by others at Shapeways. You might want to load up some designs there. Not sure what the commission is but might get you out of the making and shipping of swag.

With for example Rainman Ray I'm only learning how to get a car out the door the fastest while spending as little time learning as possible. So while the visuals at WWW are great, I always really appreciate the commentary. Maybe when you show the plasma cutter being hard at work, you could tell us when plasma cutters came on the scene, if you have any experience, the costs, the pros and cons etc.

A little heavy to move by hand though. That cnc plasma is a slick addition to your shop ! I always used a grasshopper made from a c-clamp to straighten bent metal. Great video, keep them coming. Beautiful bucket !!

2023-10-08 16:41:17 +0000 UTCLove Snowball ! On the wire feeder, I use a piece of shop towel held by a binder clip to wipe down the wire before it gets into the liner. Judging from the dirt on the towel it helps a bit. Really enjoyed this - you’re dead on when you say everyone needs a CNC plasma set up - I do think Snowball’s “magic eye” was pretty cool when he still had it
