I Bet You've Never Seen One of These!
Added 2023-11-21 15:40:22 +0000 UTCA sneak peak at my next project. It's a diesel powered, remote control, mini log skidder. The remote is missing and it hasn't moved in over a decade.

It might take something more than a few boxes of oil to stop it, if it runs amok!

2023-11-22 20:05:34 +0000 UTCFrom the reel of cable over the drag pinch, I'll give you even odds it's not "radio control" but "remote control"--that it uses/used a box on the end of a wire. Much like the crane on a service truck or concrete pump. Figuring out what wires do what is right up Wes' Controls work experience alley, too.

2023-11-22 10:14:57 +0000 UTCEven better, you woke up and the robotic mower unit has already driven the blower around the driveway during the night :-), granted it would have been more ideal with an electric machine since starting a diesel engine automatically and unsupervised can be tricky but it could be a fun project.

2023-11-22 02:18:53 +0000 UTCI've got a theory, looking at it I could see it being used on extreme slopes if it was tied off to another machine or possibly for getting trees out of tight spots when selective logging, I'd lean towards the selective logging applications.

Anders Lundgren
2023-11-21 16:34:07 +0000 UTCThis will be interesting. Whatever the logo is on the unit, I can't even find the company that built it. Stupid search engine. You may have to find a programmable RC unit for it if the OEM doesn't exist any more or EBay lets you down. At least it's sheltered, so it should be in somewhat decent shape. My guess as to why it was idle probably has something to do with the RC controller, or user incompetence.
