My first real job was working on an offshore drilling rig in the early 90's. My Redwings outlasted mud, salt water, caustic soda, kicking steel pipes for over two years and my feet never hurt after a 12 hour shift. The company gave us new Redwing boots for a safety award. Later I became a security guard for several years and wore Redwing walking shoes. I've been working in a steel shop for almost 28 years now and wear Redwing plastic toed walking shoes. Can't go wrong with Redwings, you get what you pay for.

I never had any uncomfortable feet during break-in at all. They felt comfortable from day one. My last pair were $245.00. I usually need to get new ones between 12 and 15 years. And their slip-on boots with steel toe with a semi-aggressive soul so you won't slip on ice or snow and I've stood in 10 inches of dirty water and they don't leak. Maybe you have just more tender tootsies than I have. lol

Very much pocket-sized; I have one in each of my range bags. Another cool item to give "mechanical" people is a sample set of Rare Earth Magnets. It's not obvious just what a person might do with a 5x5x2mm REM, util that light bulb moment. Ditto 2x3diameter ones.

From the Standish Group “Only 31% of software projects are successful” so 69% fail. I have seen some massive software boondoggles so I am not surprised at the failure of other big projects. The move from software waterfall development strategies to incremental agile approaches was one way to address that. Project killers are poor requirements elicitation and crappy change management. Many contractors make better percentage profit on change requests than the original project. Gov projects are notoriously costly due to change. Google the Big Dig in Boston sometime.

Didn't figure out the autistic until 50, there were no resource back when i was younger, especially if you seemed close to the normals. Keep going on the python! I am relearning that as well, did lots of perl years back and some python, now refreshing.
