Had to go rescue a friend. He was plowing a driveway and got stuck. Thankfully I still have my Marine Corps E-tool. Dug a little then pulled him out. Dang it's nippy!

2024-01-13 18:38:36 +0000 UTCAs you pointed out, the real issue was that it's a long, gangly, sort of thing, not a complicated one. Would have taken even more time to set up some sort of support frame to hold the beast to get better leverage than to just repair it. The patience required to work on the thing is probably as key as the skill. Which likely explains why such augers are often seen in groups, where one minor thing has sidelined them each, one by one.

I guess couplers are obvious, but I now have a better appreciation for their application. Always a joy to see a project where lathe, mill, drill press and shop press all get used to fab up a fix.

2024-01-13 15:26:08 +0000 UTCI'm a specialist paramedic now, and part of that role is wound care. My best friends are 3m Cavilon Barrier and hypafix tape. The combination of the two with a regular bandage will keep it stuck down and clean, even when working with your hands. The Cavilon has the added benefit of protecting skin from adhesive reactions.

Not exactly smart of me, but adding insult to injury....I've been a paramedic for nearly 20 years, with a number of those years in industrial safety. There is now a first aid kit in the shop.
