Wow that takes me back...My first 10 years of work was as a carpenter in a small town. Chinking up sleepers and floor joists, pulling walls back "square" with a come-a-long, setting doors cabinets etc. somewhere between plumb and "that looks about right". Good job getting things tied back together!

We had a steel-framed (EPDM flat) roof suffer deflection and almost catastrophic failure under similar circumstances when the roof drains froze. Glad you were able to catch this in time.

There must be millions of sheds and buildings across the U.S, built with scavenged material that are perfectly fine. The house that I live in was built in 1946 by my father-in-law. He dug the cellar hole himself, with a shovel, to save $50. He and his brother-in-laws helped each other build their houses, all by hand.

My grandpa's shop building doesn't even have gussets. It's just 2 x whatevers nailed together. But it also has a 8/12 pitch, so snow is not an issue.

Really enjoyed the graphic of the trusses. That must have taken some work to put together. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, given the high quality of your occasional "shop drawings" on various projects. Glad the shed is OK, hopefully that brutal stretch is the worst of it this year.

Back in 1969, my brothers and I helped our Dad build a five bedroom, two story house at the Lake of the Ozarks in central Missouri. The plans said we should use manufactured trusses for the roof. Dad had free labor so he wasn't going to pay someone to what he could for free. For about a week the four of us built roof trusses out of 2x14 lumber. We used 3/4" plywood for gusset and bridge plates held together with carriage bolts. 55 years later and it is still standing, with no cracks or movement. I think it's a fine design. Glad you got there before it snowed again!

New year's Day 2018 I woke up to 4 feet of wet heavy snow, I worked for days helping people shovel roofs on homes, barns clear and driveways. Then we had freezing rain and the number of new barns, shops and sheds that collapsed because the owners where confident in the fact that they were built to "code" and didn't need clearing was unreal, no power for 5 day's was okay but I had backup heat many in the area only had electric heat, when he wants to old man winter can really pack a punch. Glad the shop made it through that test!
